Rehearsal & Casting Guidelines

  • Schedule: We will provide a detailed schedule for each rehearsal on Meetup where you can RSVP about your specific attendance for that rehearsal. (So please join the Theatre Makers Meetup.)
  • Casting: Come on time and prepared to read script excerpts, some of which you should memorize before the audition.
  • Punctuality: Please arrive by your call time and stay until your end time for each rehearsal. Your fellow actors and crew are depending on you!
  • Absences: Please notify Stardust well in advance if you aren’t able to attend a rehearsal. You should not miss more than 2 or 3 rehearsals. Also, please try to schedule any missed rehearsals toward the beginning of the rehearsal schedule, rather than for the run-through and dress rehearsals close to performance time.
  • Refreshments: Each rehearsal will offer healthy vegan snacks and drink. Please feel free to bring vegan items to share if you like. Please no meat, dairy, or nuts (due to actor allergies) and mark any items containing gluten, thanks!
  • Feedback: Be prepared to provide and receive constructive feedback.
  • Cooperation: Follow the direction of crew members as appropriate to their roles.
  • Inclusion: Co-create an inclusive and diverse environment, with special attention to (dis)ability accommodation
  • Safety: Co-create an safe environment, with special attention to negotiating consensual connections for romantic and/or physical acting relationships (sexual harassment and abuse strictly prohibited)
  • Contacts: Provide basic contact info (name, city, email, phone, pronoun preference) and share it with the group.
  • Publicity: Snap photos and shoot videos during rehearsals, plus provide headshot and bio to share for show publicity.
  • Marketing: Distribute print and online flyers to friends and family to encourage them to attend the free performances.
  • Party: Help figure out where and when to hold our cast/crew/donor party!

Actors/Crew: please go here.

Theatre Makers is co-creating a new play called You Too. The play is about abuse, the #metoo movement, and hope for the future.

You Too play flyer

You Too tells the story of a female Senate candidate running against a former Hollywood director accused of harassing women. The media orchestrates the race between the two candidates and manipulates the reaction from the audience, playing with true and false accusations, and questioning the whole nature of harassment. Throughout the course of events in the play, our characters evolve and learn to find their own ground. Join us for a thought-provoking and inspiring theater experience!

Join us just after the play for a live panel discussion with the director/co-playwright, cast members, and representatives from nonprofit organizations such as SAVE and Narika. You’ll be able to ask questions (confidentially if you prefer) and get the latest info on both the play and the resources available for victims of workplace harassment and domestic violence.

This original play will have a limited run of performances in Fremont and Oakland. Produced by the Theatre Makers project of Ritual Art Troupe, a small non-profit organization, the play employs a diverse cast of actors and creative personnel living in the San Francisco Bay Area. Iryna Lymar will direct the play, which she co-wrote with Stardust Doherty.

TRIGGER WARNINGS: Adult language, scenes of domestic and work abuse, and simulations of slapping and harassment. No nudity. Parents, please consider the maturity level of your teenager before bringing them to the play — no pre-teens please.

During much of the performance, not a pin drop could be heard as the audience was mesmerized by the compelling and emotional drama exploring harassment, abuse, and the #metoo movement. In other scenes, the audience waved protest signs and hollered right along with the actors.
